In today’s highly competitive environment, a business school is primarily known and recognized by the intellect and conduct of its students. The definition and contours of conduct is subjective, however every management institute sets benchmarks for its students as far as conduct is concerned. These benchmarks thus represent the expectations of a management institute. These benchmarks are codified and translated into a broad set of guidelines known as Code of Conduct. Oriental institute of management believes that behavior and character are two most important attributes of human personality and our code of conduct would go a long way in augmentation of these two attributes.
All the OIM students are expected to observe the set code of conduct as below: -
Attendance, Punctuality & Participation
Discipline builds the character of every individual. A student therefore is expected to be punctual & regular for all his/her lectures/presentations/projects/assignments/tests and any academic tasks assigned to them. Inordinate delays lead to distraction and hence are not encouraged.
Students who are not consistent in their attendance shall be subjected to disciplinary action.
Students are expected to prepare themselves in advance for the lectures and participate actively in the proceedings. Participation helps learning and enhances overall development amongst the peers.
Passion for knowledge and Pursuit of Excellence
Learning is a continuous process. Inquisitiveness, desire for knowledge, skill development and single minded pursuit of excellence are the major traits that separate the best from the rest.
Students are expected to inculcate the habit of reading newspapers, journals, articles, magazines and books, which will enhance their awareness and groom their personality.
Students are expected to utilize their time and resources efficiently and effectively by treating time as money.
Interaction in class
Students are expected to maintain overall decorum in the class. Their interaction with the faculty and fellow students should be warm, cordial, pleasant and respectful.
Constructive and positive interaction during lectures is always welcome; however side conversations among students during lectures is undesirable and hence should be avoided.
Students are encouraged to gain conceptual clarity and comprehend practical perspective in all the subjects. They are therefore free to ask questions pertaining to the subject matter. They are expected to be polite before the faculty.
Students are also advised to take notes in the class, which will help them understand the subject and remember contents of the matter under study.
Lack of Attention in the class
Students should understand and realize that a lot of preparation and hard work goes into the delivery of a lecture by the faculty. Lack of attention to lectures and absenteeism shall tantamount to disrespect towards their faculty. Students are hence expected to concentrate in their lectures and not indulge in acts such as reading a newspaper or engrossing with their laptop, which will distract the faculty and fellow students in the lecture hall.
Assignments and Presentations
Students are supposed to submit their assignments on time in every subject. Late submission reflects poorly on student’s sincerity and may affect his/her performance in their evaluation.
For the presentation sessions, students are expected to come well – prepared and be dressed in formals.
